Gerald W. Heller is a Partner in the Litigation Section of the firm and a former Assistant United States Attorney. His areas of practice focus on complex commercial and business litigation and arbitration. He has represented clients in a wide variety of matters, including corporate and partnership disputes, and in litigation involving real estate, title and other insurance, employment, environmental, banking and construction issues.

Mr. Heller is the former President of the Federal Bar Association (Maryland Chapter), and previously served as a Member and Chairman of that Association’s Board of Governors. He has been elected to and served on the Board of Governors of the Maryland State Bar Association, and is a Fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation. He also has held several other local and state bar leadership positions including officer and other positions with the Bar Association of Montgomery County, Maryland.

Mr. Heller received his law degree from the University of Virginia and his undergraduate degree from Princeton University. He has lectured and written extensively in his areas of practice, and has taught trial and appellate advocacy and other topics for various organizations.

Significant Projects

Mr. Heller has practiced in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. Among his significant cases include, for example:

  • Represented Harvard University in commercial contract litigation.
  • Lead counsel in a business arbitration resulting in an award on behalf of the firm's clients in excess of $16 million.
  • Represented national healthcare provider in construction and real estate related claims and litigation.
  • Represented national accounting firm in contract and other actions.
  • Represented mutual fund organization in contract claims.

  • Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission v. Frankel, 57 Md. App. 419, 470 A.2d 813.
