Jeffrey Murphy is a senior associate in the Real Estate Transactions Group.

Mr. Murphy is actively engaged in various aspects of commercial real estate law. He represents lenders and borrowers in senior, subordinate and mezzanine financings, purchasers and sellers in acquisitions and dispositions, developers in public-private partnerships, and commercial landlords and tenants in retail and office leasing. Mr. Murphy advises clients on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including due diligence, structuring, and document negotiation.

Mr. Murphy received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and his A.B. in History cum laude from Dartmouth College. He worked for the US Government between college and law school. During law school, Mr. Murphy was a Contributing Editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law and Chair of the Real Estate Law Society. Prior to joining the firm, he was an associate in the real estate department in the New York office of an international law firm.

  • Represented REIT in its disposition of a portfolio of seven multifamily properties in Prince George’s County, Maryland for $328,000,000 and the defeasance of a $30,028,000 securitized loan encumbering one of the properties
  • Represented developer in its land acquisition and $51,700,000 construction financing of a multi-family project in Prince George’s County, Maryland
  • Represented congregation on a pro-bono basis in its financing of a new synagogue in Silver Spring, Maryland
  • Represented REIT in corporate restructuring and related modification of fourteen real estate secured loans to affiliated borrowers
  • Represented lender in a $20,564,000 second trust loan for the redevelopment of a multi-family project in the District of Columbia
  • Represented purchaser in the acquisition of a fifteen building apartment complex in Tampa, Florida and the assumption of existing $14,000,000 securitized loan
  • Represented developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to develop a 300-acre life science center in White Oak, Maryland
  • Represented joint venture in its acquisition and financing of a former private school in the District of Columbia for $21,000,000 for a mixed-use project and simultaneous assignment of the condominium phase to an unaffiliated developer
  • Represented joint venture in a public-private partnership with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to redevelop a 25-acre metrorail site in Prince George’s County, Maryland
  • Represented joint venture’s equity partner in connection with the acquisition and financing of all of the partnership interests in three limited partnerships owning fee title to four garden-style apartment complexes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and subsequent acquisition and financing of a fifth garden-style apartment complex from an affiliated seller, for $58,000,000
  • Represented seller in the sale of partnership interests in the partnership that owned fee title to a multi-family project in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for $112,000,000
  • Represented lead lender in origination and subsequent participation of $89,000,000 construction loan for the development of eleven garden-style apartment buildings in Dulles Town Center, Virginia
  • Represented developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to redevelop two parcels in Bethesda, Maryland
  • Represented joint venture in its acquisition and financing of a portfolio of the partnership and membership interests in the fee owners of six properties in Maryland and Virginia for $244,500,000
  • Represented developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to redevelop three parcels in Wheaton and Silver Spring, Maryland
  • Represented private lender making a $10,000,000 mezzanine loan for the construction of a student housing project in Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Efficiently closed loans totaling over $380,000,000 for lenders originating senior, subordinate and mezzanine loans
  • Successfully closed CMBS and agency loans totaling over $680,000,000 and balance sheet loans totaling over $295,000,000 for borrowers
