Jeffrey Murphy is a Partner in the firm’s Real Estate Transactions Practice.  He is actively engaged in various aspects of commercial real estate law.  He represents developers in mixed-use projects and public-private partnerships, purchasers and sellers in acquisitions and dispositions, lenders and borrowers in senior, subordinate, and mezzanine financings, and commercial landlords and tenants in retail and office leasing.  He advises clients on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including due diligence, structuring, and document negotiation.  Jeffrey is a member of the firm’s Legal Opinions Committee.

Jeffrey received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and his A.B. in history cum laude from Dartmouth College.  He worked for the U.S. government between college and law school.  During law school, he was a contributing editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law and chair of the Real Estate Law Society.  Before joining Linowes and Blocher, Jeffrey was an associate in the real estate department in the New York office of an international law firm.

  • Represented private equity fund in disposition of a portfolio of eleven multi-family properties in Charles County, Maryland for $302 million
  • Represented lender in origination of $36 million loan secured by an office building in Rockville, Maryland leased in part to the GSA
  • Represented borrowers in $6.75 million CMBS loan secured by a Best Western in Sacramento, California and $6 million CMBS loan secured by a Holiday Inn Express in Warrenton, Virginia
  • Represented joint venture in sale of all of the membership interests in the companies owning fee title to four multi-family properties in Nashville, Tennessee for $144 million
  • Represented joint venture’s equity partner in acquisition and financing of two multi-family properties in Prince George’s County, Maryland for $44 million
  • Represented corporation in sale of all of the membership interests in the company owning fee title to more than 7,000 residential lots in Charles County, Maryland for $43.5 million
  • Represented lender in origination of $62.5 million construction loan to tenants-in-common for an 86-key boutique hotel in Washington, DC
  • Represented purchaser in acquisition and financing of the majority of residential units in, and subsequent collapse of, a condominium in Raleigh, North Carolina for $46 million
  • Represented national developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to construct a public parking garage and related improvements in the White Flint Metro West District
  • Represented private equity fund in disposition of a portfolio of seven multi-family properties in Prince George’s County, Maryland for $328 million and related defeasance of $30.028 million securitized loan
  • Represented developer in land acquisition and $51.7 million construction financing for a multi-family project in Prince George’s County, Maryland
  • Represented congregation on a pro bono basis in financing of a new synagogue in Silver Spring, Maryland
  • Represented REIT in corporate restructuring and related modification of fourteen real estate secured loans to affiliated borrowers
  • Represented lender in $20.564 million second trust loan for redevelopment of a multi-family project in Washington, DC
  • Represented purchaser in acquisition of a garden-style apartment complex in Tampa, Florida and assumption of existing $14 million securitized loan
  • Represented developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to develop a 300-acre life science center in White Oak, Maryland
  • Represented joint venture in acquisition and financing of a former private school in the District of Columbia for $21 million for a mixed-use project and simultaneous assignment of the condominium phase to an unaffiliated developer
  • Represented joint venture in a public-private partnership with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to redevelop a 25-acre Metrorail site in Prince George’s County, Maryland
  • Represented joint venture’s equity partner in acquisition and financing of all of the partnership interests in three limited partnerships owning fee title to four garden-style apartment complexes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and subsequent acquisition and financing of fee title to a fifth garden-style apartment complex from an affiliated seller, for $58 million
  • Represented seller in sale of partnership interests in the partnership that owned fee title to a multi-family property in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for $112 million
  • Represented lead lender in origination and subsequent participation of $89 million construction loan for eleven garden-style apartment buildings in Dulles Town Center, Virginia
  • Represented developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to construct a police station and a mixed-use project in Bethesda, Maryland
  • Represented joint venture in portfolio acquisition and financing of the partnership and membership interests in the fee owners of six multi-family properties in Maryland and Virginia for $244.5 million
  • Represented developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to construct a public office building and two private multi-family projects in Wheaton and Silver Spring, Maryland
  • Represented developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to redevelop Silver Spring Progress Place
  • Represented developer in a public-private partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland to redevelop the 90-acre County Service Park at Shady Grove
  • Represented private lender in origination of $10 million mezzanine loan for the construction of a student housing project in Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Efficiently closed loans totaling approximately $445 million for lenders originating senior, subordinate, and mezzanine loans
  • Successfully closed CMBS and agency loans totaling approximately $600 million and balance sheet loans totaling approximately $300 million for borrowers
