Zoning Rewrite Will Have Significant Effect on All Properties in Prince George’s County ~ Public Testimony Taken May through July 2018

April 27, 2018

The Prince George's County Planning Department and its consultants have been working on a comprehensive rewrite to the County Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations. These processes will have a significant effect on all properties in Prince George's County, whether currently developed or vacant.

The legislative draft of the comprehensive rewrite was formally introduced at the Prince George’s County Council this week. The County Council has scheduled worksessions on the comprehensive rewrite at which they will take written and oral testimony from the public on May 14th, July 10th, and July 17th. It is anticipated that the County Council will adopt the comprehensive rewrite in the end of October 2018, but it will not become effective until the subsequent comprehensive map amendment rezoning all properties in the County is undertaken and adopted, likely sometime in 2020.

We recommend that all property owners and interested parties actively participate in these processes in order to protect the highest and best use of their properties.
