Court Decision Allows Suburban Hospital to Proceed with Expansion
On January 27, 2014, the Maryland Court of Appeals denied the Huntington Terrace Citizens Association’s petition for a writ of certiorari seeking further appellate review of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals September 10, 2013 Opinion upholding the County Board of Appeals approval of Suburban Hospital’s expansion. This decision removes the last legal barrier to implementation of the project that began with the filing of the application to amend the Hospital’s special exception in March of 2008. The Hospital’s expansion plans include an addition to provide more private patient rooms, larger operating rooms that will be located on the same floor as the Emergency/Trauma Center, a new parking garage, better traffic and pedestrian circulation, and physician office space. Commencement of construction of the project is expected to occur within the year.
